Hive Updates: Chester & Hulk Hives received their Honey Supers. Derby Hive is requeening and Hang on Sloopy received donor babies and bees from Blue Hive. Below you can see one of the possible new queens of Derby Hive. She’s just a larvae at the moment. The nurse bees are feeding her Royal Jelly as you can see in the second photo. When she’s big enough and healthy enough (around day 8)they will cap her cell closed and metamorphosis will happen. Once capped the new queens will emerge in roughly 8 days. The whole process from egg to virgin queen takes 16 days. There are several of these cells in the hive. The first queen to hatch will destroy or kill all other Unhatched queens. Although the current queen appears to be doing her job in the hive, the bees know best and so we will let nature take its course.
I’m a hobbies keeper on darby-pottersburg rd, maybe close to urban location, question how has your over wintering going
